ABOUT

WHEN HILARY MET CLIVE….

He a successful producer and story editor at BBC Scotland , erstwhile journalist, charity worker, advertising copywriter; she an award winning freelance theatrical musical director,  writer of tunes, accompanist to stars of Scottish theatre….

They began collaborating - writing songs; hanging out and working out at Body Combat classes and drinking lots of coffee.

Their first work together was the chamber musical Meeting Matthew.  A three-hander mini musical commissioned by Oran Mor Theatre in Glasgow.

Encouraged by each other’s joy of writing, they began to develop narratives and songs for potential theatrical productions. A Rock And A Hard Place comes from this period. On the strength of the demo,  Brooks & King secured a commission from the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, in association with the Ambassadors Theatre Group, to pen a musical theatre version of the classic film Powell & Pressburger’s A Matter of Life and Death.  The project is currently languishing in Development Hell.  In 2016 and 2017 Clive had two short plays (The Real Mrs Sinatra and The Tears of Cora Pearl) selected for performance as part of The Tron Theatre 100 Festival of new work. Oran Mor commissioned an expanded version of The Real Mrs Sinatra to open the 2016 autumn season of A Play, A Pie and A Pint.

For each of the last two years, under the writing name of Brooks & King, Hilary and Clive have written original shows for the Oran Mor mini-musicals season.  Both Wee Free! The Musical and Melania played to packed houses and received four and five star reviews.
